Ensuring safety and healthy working conditions in workplaces

Labor Safety

For the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ensuring the reliable protection of workers' rights to safe working conditions is a paramount line of activity. In alignment with the global strategies of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Federation is consistently transforming approaches to workplace safety, shifting from the legacy compensatory model to modern principles of a risk-oriented occupational health and safety management system and a qualitative revision of the procedure for health damage compensation.

Monitoring of industrial injuries across the republic clearly demonstrates that the presence of a trade union organization at an enterprise serves as the primary barrier against accidents. The FPRK does not merely record statistics; it actively implements practical control tools directly at workplaces:

  • Production Councils: These are joint, paritetic bodies established for the collaborative actions of both the employer and employees to ensure occupational safety.
  • "People's Control" Project: In cooperation with social partners, the FPRK actively deploys this project at the country's enterprises to engage the workers themselves in safety monitoring.
  • "Vision Zero" Concept: Providing assistance and promoting the international concept of zero accidents and injuries at enterprises.
  • Technical Inspectors: The FPRK systematically conducts educational lectures and seminars to upgrade the qualifications of technical occupational health and safety inspectors. To encourage best practices, a republican competition titled "Best Technical Inspector" is held annually.
