ITUC general council outlines priorities of the trade union agenda

On Wednesday, 27 May, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and member of the General Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Satybaldy Dauletalin, took part in the regular meeting of the ITUC General Council held via videoconference.

During the meeting, participants considered key issues related to preparations for the 7th World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation, which will take place in Vienna in November 2027 under the slogan “Fighting for Rights. Building Union Power Now.”

Members of the General Council discussed the first draft of the Congress Statement reflecting the position of the global trade union movement on the protection of workers’ rights, strengthening democracy and social justice, countering growing inequality, increasing corporate pressure, and violations of labour rights.

Special attention was paid to the protection of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining; ensuring decent work and social protection; promoting a just transition in the context of climate and technological changes; expanding the role of trade unions in global decision-making processes; and strengthening international trade union solidarity and democratic institutions.

Participants also reviewed the report of the ITUC Constitutional Amendments Working Group aimed at improving the organization’s governance mechanisms, increasing transparency of electoral procedures, and strengthening the institutional sustainability of the International Trade Union Confederation.

As part of the agenda, the draft programme of the 7th ITUC World Congress was presented, alongside discussions on the organization’s financial activities, preparations of Congress committees, and the current international trade union agenda.

Following the meeting, the global trade union movement reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of social justice, international solidarity, protection of labour rights, and the promotion of workers’ interests worldwide.

Commenting on the outcomes of the meeting to the Trade Union Communications Center, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Satybaldy Dauletalin emphasized the importance of consolidating the efforts of national trade union centres affiliated with the ITUC in the face of global challenges. He also highlighted the need to further strengthen the role of trade unions at both the international and national levels in ensuring decent work, social stability, and the protection of workers’ interests.
